1. Librarians, library assistants and science technicians new pay equity rates

From pay period 10 (pay day 8 August 2023) librarians, library assistants and science technicians will be paid the new pay equity rates including any increments, backdated to 23 November 2022 or the date the employee started in their role, if after 23 November 2022.

Holiday pay backpay and backpay for current school employees who held roles eligible for this pay equity settlement, but whose roles ended after 23 November, will be paid in an upcoming pay period.

For more information about the pay equity claim settlements, see the Ministry of Education’s website:

2. Auto Increments now under new Progression tab

The Auto Increments tab is now under a new tab called Progression, under My School > Administration in EdPay.

You’ll need to click on Progression to reveal the Auto Increments tab.

We will be adding another tab related to salary progression under the Progression tab, which is the reason for this change.

3. Check the Auto Increments screen for employees due to progress

Employees who have signed the new Support Staff in Schools’ Collective Agreement or Individual Employee Agreement (IEA) automatically progress to a higher salary step on the anniversary of their start date.

When support staff are due to progress in the next 90 days, they will show on the Auto Increments screen in EdPay, and no longer appear on attestation reports.

Automatic progression is also a condition of the Librarians and Library Assistants’, and Science Technicians’ pay equity settlements. This means that all support staff (including those who are on an older IEA), who are eligible for this pay equity settlement, will now show on the Auto Increments screen.

Set a reminder to check the screen each month

Set a reminder to check the screen every month for support staff who may have their anniversary/progression date coming up. If an increment needs to be deferred, you can do this in EdPay for these employees. See Defer automatic salary increments for support staff (Training, EdPay.govt.nz)

4. Pacific bilingual immersion teaching allowance

Pacific language teachers on the Primary Principals’ (PPCBU) Collective Agreement may be eligible to receive the new Pacific bilingual immersion teaching allowance.

Eligibility requirements and the new EP37p form are on our website.

This allowance will also be available to eligible employees on the Primary Principals’ (NZEI) Collective Agreement and IEA, and the Primary Teachers’ Collective Agreement and IEA from term 1 2024.

5. Change email address for employees who have resigned

When an employee has resigned from the school, please change their email address in EdPay from their school email to another email address. This is so that we have a way to contact them if we need to in the future.

6. Payroll changes that now process immediately

One of our focuses this year has been to increase the number of changes you can make in EdPay that are processed immediately and don’t create a ticket for your payroll advisor.

As a result, many fixed term end date, hours per week and employee status changes, are now actioned immediately. But in some scenarios, a ticket will still be created.

If you have any feedback about these changes, email feedback@edpay.nz
